Ballerup, Denmark and Redwood City, CA, USA – July 24, 2024 – Norlase, an emerging global ophthalmic manufacturer developing next-generation laser solutions, has elected Maya Barley, PhD, to its board of directors. Dr. Barley, the current CEO of Medis Medical Imaging Systems, brings to her role a wealth of experience from across the medical technology sector, as Norlase furthers its mission of delivering ophthalmic innovation to customers globally.

During her tenure as CEO of Medis Medical Imaging Systems, Dr. Barley has led the company to market leadership through new product development, as well as secured a strategic collaboration with GE Healthcare. An experienced leader with a broad range of executive positions in the medtech sector, Dr. Barley’s decades in the industry include roles in product management, marketing, clinical science, and R&D.

Dr. Barley’s appointment to the Norlase board is another landmark in the company’s growth as it continues to introduce its products into new markets globally . The company closed its biggest investment round yet in 2023, with $11 million USD in funding following the regulatory clearance of its third product, the ECHO Pattern Laser. Dr. Barley joins an expanding team of experts from across the medical device industry, who seek to advance what is possible for efficient, convenient ophthalmic laser technologies.

Prior to her tenure with Medis Medical, Dr. Barley served as Global Product Director at LumiraDx, where she oversaw critical product management and development projects. Her storied track record in the industry also includes a role as Innovation & Strategic Marketing Director at Keeler, where she reversed a two-decade decline in product output and spearheaded the development of AI-led retinal imaging products. She has held multiple senior roles at Phillips, including Director of Clinical Technologies, where she drove significant clinical research partnerships and developed integrated solution roadmaps across various diagnostic applications. She holds a PhD in Biomedical and Electrical Engineering from Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
